Dr. Chaise Housley Awarded $2,000 Grant from the Beryl Institute 2020 Patient Experience Grants for Quality Improvement Project

Currently with Covid, pre-operative patients are not allowed to have anyone at bedside.  Before Covid, a family member or friend was there to ask questions or give information but mainly be there as a support for the patient.  Exceptional Patient Experience (EPE) numbers are down indicating decreased patient satisfaction with their experience. Dr. Housley hypothesizes that not having a support person at bedside is likely contributing to this.

Dr. Housley’s project, mentored by Dr. Emily Drennan, will provide the means for the patient to choose who they would like to call or facetime to be present for the pre-operative conversation with the patient (as if they were at bedside as a support).  Dr. Housley will use EPE numbers to determine if having them "present" for the pre-operative conversation improves patient satisfaction scores.
