It is our great pleasure to announce the creation of the Acute Care Imaging Section in the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences and the appointment of Patrick Kobes, DO, as the Section Chief, beginning July 1, 2018.

The section of Acute Care Imaging will operate under its mission “Whenever and wherever images are generated, we will translate them to the highest value of patient care.” The section will evolve in the next few years and will support off-hour / off-site practices, Emergency Department, and other stakeholders in University of Utah Health.

Dr. Kobes is an Assistant Professor of Radiology and Imaging Sciences in the Section of Musculoskeletal Imaging. He completed his residency training at Northwell Health, Great Neck, New York and recently completed subspecialty fellowship training in Musculoskeletal Imaging here at the University of Utah. During this period, he was named 'Nighthawk of the Year' by the trainees. He is an active participant in multiple international and national radiologic assemblies including ESSR, RSNA, AUR, and ARRS presenting both educational exhibits and oral presentations. He has a strong background in management and leadership while working for General Electric prior to attending medical school as a Project Manager in the Division of Wind Energy. Dr. Kobes has been working with the Department leadership to craft the mission and operational plan of the new section and will make his transition to the Acute Care Imaging Section in August.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Kobes’ on his new role in the newly formed section of Acute Care Imaging. We are looking forward to working with him and his section members to continue the momentum in advancing acute care imaging in our department.
