Peter A. Jenkins named Section Chief of Medical Imaging Physics and Radiation Safety (MIPRS)

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Peter A. Jenkins, PhD, CHP, DABR, as the Section Chief of a newly created section, Medical Imaging Physics and Radiation Safety (MIPRS), beginning July 1, 2018.

Dr. Jenkins has worked as a Health and Medical Physics for the University of Utah since 2002 and an Associate Professor in our department since 2014. Prior to coming to the U of U, he worked for Loma Linda University Medical Center providing Health and Medical Physics oversight and support for the Proton Accelerator facility, Animal Research Facility, and all clinical use areas. Before making the transition to practicing physics in medicine, he was a Department of Energy Health Physics Fellow at the Idaho National Lab. He has served in the US Army as a Medical Operations Officer and as a Nuclear Science Medical Officer after initially enlisting and serving in the USMC infantry. Pete served as the Chairman of the Utah Radiation Control Board from 2006 through 2015, writing radiation control rules and sitting as presiding officer in adjudication for several high profile radiation-related issues for the State of Utah. He has authored and co-authored numerous publications, book chapters, and educational presentations on radiation effects and radiation safety. He is active in several professional societies including the American Association of Physicists in Medicine where he is currently part of a task group writing updated performance standards for clinical fluoroscopy.
