New Faculty: Matthew Covington, MD, and Prasanth Prasanna, MD

By Michael Mozdy

Two new faculty members join our department in June 2019.

Matthew Covington, MD, joins us from the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology in St. Louis. He received his medical degree from the University of Utah in 2011 and has practiced at the Scripps Institute in San Diego, the University of Arizona, and the Mayo Clinic in Arizona. He is interested in molecular breast imaging and contrast-enhanced mammography, and while he will work primarily in the breast section, he will contribute his expertise to the nuclear medicine section on a part-time basis.

Prasanth Prasanna, MD, joins us from Diagnostic Imaging Associates in Salem, Oregon. He received his medical degree from Northeastern Ohio Universities in 2005 and in addition to practicing at Maine Medical Center and the University of Maryland, he has worked at IBM and with IBM's Watson project. He has published papers on using deep learning to aid in automatic image segmentation, and while he will be working primarily in the musculoskeletal imaging section, he will lend his expertise to our imaging informatics work.

Please give a warm welcome to Drs. Covington and Prasanna when you see them.
