Abstract

Data collection in clinical research informatics (CRI) was significantly advanced with the introduction of REDCap(1) as a data capture tool. While the design and interface of REDCap made HIPPA compliant data collection and storage a reality, the absence of standard data elements and terminologies limit the potential use of REDCap data. The Biomedical Research Informatics Core (BRISC) is starting a project that will address this issue. This presentation will provide an overview of REDCap, identify some of the design and implementation issues and present which standards are being considered and why.

Bio

Mr. LaSalle has been involved in supporting investigator initiated clinical research since 1986. He directed the development of national informatics guidelines for the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) GCRC Program and conducted national bioinformatics meetings for NCRR (1999 - 2003). He has directed data coordinating centers for several multi-center clinical trials and is interested in creating an enterprise level research data warehouse for translational research.
