Join us in welcoming Dr. Gang Luo as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics (BMI) as of August 15, 2012. Prior to accepting a faculty position with BMI, Gang was a Research Staff Member at IBM T.J. Watson Research Center. He earned his PhD in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Luo’s research interests include health informatics (system building and data analysis), information retrieval, database, natural language processing, machine learning, and data mining. In collaboration with many researchers worldwide, he founded the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Special Interest Group on Health Informatics (SIGHIT) and the ACM SIGHIT International Health Informatics Symposium (IHI) in 2010. Dr. Luo enjoys interacting with people from various areas and is interested in combining advanced computing techniques, mathematical theory, and healthcare knowledge to improve the daily lives of people.
