The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) has awarded a new grant (1R18DK123372-01A1) to the University of Utah to promote real world implementation of an evidence-based weight management program integrated with the EHR. The project will run from 7/1/2020 to 6/30/2025. The project PIs are Dr. Molly Conroy, Division Chief of General Internal Medicine at the University of Utah (contact PI) and Dr. Kensaku Kawamoto, Vice Chair for Clinical Informatics in the Department of Biomedical Informatics. This project leverages an innovative, EHR-facilitated weight loss maintenance intervention (MAINTAIN) that was previously validated by our research team in a clinical research environment. In this project, the MAINTAIN intervention will be implemented using existing clinical resources and evaluated for its real-world impact. MAINTAIN PRIME will be conducted in 14 primary care practices affiliated with the University of Utah and will capitalize on further advances in health IT and team-based care models to deliver the intervention with minimal support from research staff. Congratulations Drs. Conroy and Kawamoto!
