On September 17, 2020 the Department of Biomedical Informatics hosted the 2nd Annual IAB Strategic Planning Virtual Retreat. In 2019 we met in person and many of the recommendations provided by our industry partners were incorporated into our curriculum. This time we discussed improvement opportunities, but we also provided an update about what our department research initiatives are and what our students are doing (see how one of our PhD candidates, Michael Watkins has been impacted by partnering with our IAB members HERE). During a break out room session, three groups discussed 1) hands-on and practicum opportunities; 2) research collaboration between DBMI faculty IAB members and 3) new competencies and skills we should be incorporating in our program.
We also welcomed seven new companies that joined our board during 2020: Cambia Grove, Dynamic Content Group, Infectious Disease Connect, Inherent Biosciences, SafeLane Health, Salt Lake County Health Dept., and V School.
The companies that participated this year were: 3M, AdvancedMD, Ancestry, ARUP, Cambia Grove, Clinical Architecture, Collective Medical Technologies, Dynamic Content Group, Highmark Health, Hiteks, Unherent Biosciences, Interopion, SafeLane Health, Stratametrics, University of Utah Health, Utah Dept. of Health, Utah Health Information Network, and V School.
