2000

Julia Castillo, M.D.

Dr. Castillo practices pediatrics at Kaiser Permanente in Orange County, California. She lived in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.

Todd Daynes, M.D.

Dr. Daynes practices ophthalmology in Utah.

Peter C. Fisher, M.D.

Dr. Fisher has accepted a position at Western Urological Clinic in Salt Lake City, Utah. He and his wife Nicole have 4 children.

Marion Folkner, M.D.

After finishing residency Dr. Folkner spent four and a half years in the Indian Health Service for the Navajo and Tulalip Reservations. She currently resides in Seattle, Washington and practices at the University of Washington Neighborhood Clinics as a pediatrician.

Michael W. Foutz, M.D.

Dr. Foutz is practicing family medicine in Kuna, Idaho. He and his wife Katy have 3 children.

Katy Gesteland, M.D.

Dr. Gesteland practices maternal-fetal medicine at Oregon Health and Sciences University. She has settled in Oregon.

Brian Hall, M.D.

Dr. Hall resides in Medford, Oregon and is the Medical Director of Anesthesia and Cardiac Anesthesia at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Jeffrey Hancock, M.D.

Dr. Hancock will be starting a fellowship with the University of Utah Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Department in 2007.

Marta Heilbrun, M.D.

Dr. Heilbrum finished her residency at Wake Forest and is returning to Salt Lake City in July 2006 to start an abdominal imaging fellowship at the University of Utah. She has 2 daughters.

John Hemmersmeier, M.D.

Dr. Hemmersmeier is practicing family medicine in Ogden, Utah.

James G. Howard, M.D.

Dr. Howard completed an internal medicine/ophthalmology internship at the University of Utah, an ophthalmology residency in 2005 and a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery and disease in 2007 at the University of Iowa.  He currently lives in Sandy and is a partner at Retina Associates of Utah in salt Lake City.

David Hughes, M.D.

Dr. Hughes practices emergency medicine at Mercy Medical Center in Durango, Colorado. He received the Salt Lake County Service Award for avalanche victim rescue in 2003. He sits on the faculty for Advanced Wilderness Medicine for the Upper San Juan Health District Emergency Medical Service.

Easton Jackson, M.D.

Dr. Jackson completed his residency in family medicine in 2004 in the Spokane, WA. Family medicine program.  He then worked as a family medicine doctor for five years in Delta, UT and also served as the Millard County Deputy Medical Examiner.  He returned to Salt Lake City in 2010 and works for the Granger Medical Clinic.  He and his wife have three girls and two boys, ages three to thirteen.

Suzanne C. Jensen, M.D.

Dr. Jensen resides in Los Altos, California and practices Emergency Medicine at Mills Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame, California. 

Janet L. Larsen (Halter), M.D.

Dr. Larsen and her husband Jim recently relocated to the Washington D.C. metro area. He joined a law firm as a patient attorney and Dr. Larsen is currently self-employed as a locums physician which allows her the flexibility both to work and to care for their two children, Andrew and Elizabeth. They recently celebrated their 8th wedding anniversary and enjoy a blessed life with their two adorable children!

Debra Naylor, M.D.

Dr. Naylor resides in Grapevine, Texas where she practices at the 18 and Under Clinic. She served as the Department of Pediatrics Chair at Medical Center of Lewisville in 2009-2010 and is the Department Vice Chair at Presbyterian Hospital – Flower Mound and on serves on the Medical Executive Committee.

David Petersen, M.D.

David Petersen, M.D. lives in Reno, Nevada and is a hospitalist in Pediatrics at the Renown Children's Hospital.

Christopher Smith , M.D.

Dr. Smith completed a year of internship in Roanoke, Virginia in 2002 and a residency in diagnostic radiology in 2007, followed by a fellowship in cross-sectional imaging in 2007 at the Johns Hopkins Hospital.  He also does teleradiology with vision radiology.  He is happily married with five daughters and lives in York, PA.  He is a member of the US Army Reserve and deployed to Kosovo for three months in 2008 in support of US operations.

Margaret Hope Solomon, M.D.

Dr. Solomon completed her internal medicine and pediatrics residency at the Harvard University combined program in Boston. She is currently practicing at the University of Utah Redwood Health Center. She and her husband Chris are the proud parents of 1 daughter.

Mary Tipton, M.D.

In the past five years Dr. Tipton has become an owner of a group practice, she passed two Board certification exams, had two children and had nine surgeries to correct injuries from a car accident which occurred at the end of her residency and hence has acquired a few grey hairs! Dr. Tipton currently resides in West Jordan, Utah.

Ryan Raymond Williams, M.D.

Dr. Williams did a Triple Board residency and is Board certified in Pediatrics, General Psychiatry, with Child Psych pending. He also did a fellowship in child abuse and neglect. Dr. Williams and his wife, Vanh reside in Beaver, Utah and have two beautiful girls, ages six and three.  

2002

Scott H. Mumford, M.D. Dr. Mumford continues to practice pediatrics at the Utah Valley Pediatrics office in American Fork, UT. In October 2005 a third Mumford boy, Max, was added to the family.

William Mitchell, MD

Dr. Mitchell lives in San Diego, California and works as a medical oncologist seeing primarily thoracic malignancies. He works also as the medical director of the palliative care program at UCSD.

Casey Cotant, M.D. Dr. Cotant is serving in the Air Force and practicing nephrology at the Wilford Hall Medical Center near San Antonio, TX.

2003

Jason Blackham, M.D.

After finishing his internal medicine residency at Iowa, Dr. Blackham went to East Carolina University in North Carolina for a sports medicine fellowship. He now serves as the team physician for the track and cross country teams at the University of Iowa as well as the team internist consultant for the Hawkeyes. My clinical time is split between a general internal medicine clinic and a sports medicine clinic. Dr. Blackham's sons are eight and five years old and his daughter is two years old. They still enjoy going fishing, camping, and spending time together and his sons are learning to fly fish. He and his wife continue to enjoy running.

Jacob Clendenon, M.D.

Dr. Clendenon finished an Abdominal Transplant Surgery fellowship in Abdominal Transplant Surgery in 2011 at Mayo Clinic and currently practices in that field at Aurora St. Luke’s in Milwaukee, WI. He did his general surgery residency at Albert Einstein School of Medicine at the Montefiore Medical Center.

Jeffrey David Dillon, M.D.

Dr. Dillon is a practicing anesthesiologist at Willford Hall Medical Center on the Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio Texas.

Jill Faatz, M.D.

After finishing a family medicine residency in 2006, Dr. Faatz and her family moved to Heber, Utah. She now works full time for Intermountain Healthcare in urgent care in both Park City and Orem. She also practices family medicine one day a week in Heber. Her husband, Christian, continues to work for the Park City Mountain Resort. They have two girls: Greta, age 3; and Tess, age 1.

Elizabeth M. Thackeray, M.D.

Dr. Thackery is a practicing anesthesiologist at University Hospital in Salt Lake City. Dr. Thackery also completed a fellowship in acute pain (ultrasound guided peripheral nerve blocks). She and her husband, Will, have a 5-year-old daughter.

Jason Hansen, M.D.

Although Dr. Hansen's reputation as an audiovisual specialist during the first two years of medical school led to lucrative Hollywood offers, he decided to turn down all of the glamour and prestige to pursue dermatology residency and a Mohs Surgery fellowship. He and his family have enjoyed their gradual trek eastward from Utah to Iowa to North Carolina along with the addition of two girls to their family (Annecy, 6; Soleil, 3; Ciel, 1). They are now looking forward to settling back into Utah and practicing in Salt Lake City.

Jennifer Holmes, M.D.

Dr. Holmes finished her obstetrics-gynecology residency at the University of Colorado in June 2007, and then returned to Utah to be near family. Her daughter, Jessie, is now seven years old and just finished first grade.

Christine Johns, M.D.

Dr. Johns completed her fellowship in nephrology at the University of Minnesota in June 2008. Afterward, she moved to Vientiane, Laos to be the volunteer coordinator for the only internal medicine residency in Laos. During her fellowship research time, Dr. Johns spent three months in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Dr. Johns has also completed her ASTMH certification of knowledge in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.

Jonathan Edward Martin, M.D.

Dr. Martin is a practicing anesthesiologist and his wife Larissa and he have three beautiful daughters: Madelyn, 6; Aunama, 4; and Kalli, 1.

Anne Perry, M.D.

Dr. Perry completed her residency in internal medicine in 2006 and then went to Nepal for three months as a volunteer for the Himalayan Rescue Association in Pheriche. She started work as a hospitalist afterward, which she has been doing now for a year and a half. This year she went with the group Healing Hands for Haiti to do humanitarian work there.

2004

Tanya Christensen, M.D.

Dr. Christensen completed a residency in dermatology in 2009. She is currently working as a dermatologist with Dermatology Partners of Western New York.

Rachel Garton Depuy, M.D.

Dr. Depuy is currently finishing up her general surgery residency at Saint Joseph Medical Center in Polson, Montana. Dr. Depuy (formerly Garton) married Jon Depuy in November 2006.

Kirk Knowlton, M.D.

Dr. Knowlton practices Cardiology at the University of California, San Diego where he has served as the Chief of Cardiology since 2004.

Angela Thompson, M.D.

Dr. Thompson is a practicing obstetrician-gynecologist at Altru Health in Grand Forks, North Dakota. She completed her residency in obstetrics-gynecology at the University of Michigan in 2008. She and her husband, Abram Sauer, have a daughter, Astrial, and reside in Grand Forks.

2005

Richard Gurgel, M.D.

Dr. Gurgel finished his residency training at the University of Iowa in 2010 and then completed a fellowship in Neuro-otology and Skull Base surgery at Stanford University. While at Stanford, he was awarded Fellow Teacher of the year for two consecutive years. He is now an Assistant Professor in Otolaryngology at the University of Utah. He and his family are happy to be “home” at the U!

Scott Larson, M.D.

Dr. Larson is currently an anesthesia resident at Georgetown University. 

2006

Jeremy Biggs, M.D.

Dr. Biggts is currently working as an Assistant Professor at the University of Utah and lives in Draper, Utah with his wife and three children.

Paula Cook, M.D.

Dr. Cook is Board certified in Family Medicine and sitting for addiction Boards in December of 2012. She enjoys her family practice at Wasatch Family Medicine and at St. Marks Hospital and watching her family grow in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Chenyin He, M.D.

Dr. She is happily married to her husband, Ben Li who is a fellow in maternal-fetal medicine and pediatric genetics at UCSF. Together, they have a little furry dog named Bouncy. They love being back in the Bay Area and enjoy the surrounding mountains and Pacific Ocean.

Heather Helton, M.D.

Dr. Helton is currently a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellow at Seattle Children’s Hospital.  She completed her pediatrics residency at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital at Michigan State University in 2006 and a fellowship in clinical research in 2010.

Sarah Petersen, M.D.

Dr. Petersen is excited to be back home in Utah. She completed her residency at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri in 2010. Dr. Petersen has two children, Timothy and Anna Bella. She loves being a mostly "stay-at-home-mom" with a great part-time gig at University of Utah South Jordan Health Center.

Christian Sybrowsky, M.D.

Dr. Sybrowsky is currently completing a fellowship in sports medicine/arthroscopy at the University of Iowa.  He completed his residency in 2011 in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Washington.

Aaron Waite, M.D.

Dr. Waite completed a Cornea Fellowship in Colorado after finishing residency in Tennessee. He joined a private practice in Las Vegas to offer the latest in advanced cornea surgery to the patients in Southern Nevada.

2007

Brandon Park, M.D.

After completing  a one year General Surgery internship at the University of Utah, Dr. Park went to the University of Nebraska Medical Center where he just completed his residency in Diagnostic Radiology. 

Megan Freestone-Bernd, M.D.

Dr. Freeston-Bernd just completed her Pediatric Anesthesiology fellowship at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and is now an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology there.  Her family has been staying busy. She and her husband, Kerry, are the lucky parents of a wonderful two year-old boy named Asher who is a joy!
