Elizabeth Hammond, M.D. Distinguished Alumni - U of U School of Medicine



Dr. Elizabeth Hammond received her MD from the University of Utah School of Medicine in 1967 and went on to complete an internship with the University of Utah Health Science Center also in Salt Lake City. She completed her residency with Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and received fellowships from both the National Institutes of Health at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, and from the Massachusetts General Hospital in immunopathology research.

Dr. Hammond is board-certified in anatomic pathology.She is the author of 190 published manuscripts and three books. Pathologists are physicians who use laboratory medicine and technology to identify and diagnosedisease.They work with primary care physicians and others on the patient care team to guide treatment plans. In fact, more than 70 percent of all decisions about diagnosis, treatment, hospital admission, and discharge rest on the pathologist's report.
