2024 Staff Excellence Awards
Each year, the Department of Internal Medicine highlights our outstanding staff and team members with our Staff Excellence Awards. These individuals are nominated by their peers and demonstrate excellence in the following categories: Outstanding Achievement and Performance, Personal Interaction, and Initiative and Creativity. From the group of nominations, a Staff Excellence Awards committee selects five staff members to receive this prestigious award for their efforts in 2024.
We are honored to present our five awardees.
Adele Hamilton, MBA
Adele is originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland. She earned a degree in American Studies and spent a semester studying at the University of Utah, where she met her husband. After living in Denver, London, and Belfast, they decided to return to Utah with their two children. Adele worked in HR for several years before deciding to pursue a career in higher education. She was fortunate to join the pathology department and, after completing her MBA, began working as a program manager for the Infectious Diseases fellowship program, a role she has held for two and a half years. Adele takes great pride in supporting the fellows and working with her amazing, compassionate team. In her spare time, Adele enjoys traveling, reading, and trying new restaurants in Salt Lake City. She spends most weekends at Nickel Mania, Topgolf, the movies, or doing whatever else her kids want to do.

Diana Boeshans
Diana moved to Salt Lake City from Montana in 2014 to pursue a career in science. Through the years, she’s worked in multiple research labs at the U, ultimately finding her passion in hematology and bone marrow transplant. Since 2021, Diana has had the privilege of serving as a Cell Therapy Technologist, supporting the incredible patients at the Huntsman Cancer Institute and Primary Children’s Hospital under the Department of Cell Therapy and Regenerative Medicine. Diana enjoys getting to spend time with patients- whether it be collecting stem cells, performing therapeutic apheresis, or being present during transplants. The cherry on top is being able to work with an amazing, collaborative team. Outside of work, Diana likes to cook dishes from around the world and create kaleidoscopic art pieces that reflect her fascination with color and shapes.

Holly Coleman, CCMA, CMAA
Holly has worked in the medical field for over 23 years as a medical assistant across a variety of specialties. For the past 11 years, she has been with the University of Utah’s Division of Nephrology. She began as a dialysis tech for two and a half years, then served as a Clinical Supervisor and Medical Assistant for six years, followed by two and a half years as an Administrative Assistant. Most recently, she stepped into her current role as a Clinical Executive Assistant, which she has held for the past six months. Holly enjoys running, hiking, snowboarding, and riding her dirt bike, especially when spending time doing these activities with her husband and two sons.

Stephanie Edwards, MSN, RN, CMSRN
Stephanie has dedicated her career to healthcare and community service. With 12 years of experience at University of Utah Health, she has achieved significant milestones, including working in the COVID-19 ICU in the early days of the pandemic, piloting the discharge nursing program, and founding the B50 Peer Mentor Program. Her work focuses on improving nursing and physician communication, collaboration, and patient outcomes. Stephanie's commitment to community service is evident from her two years’ time with the U.S. Peace Corps in South Africa, where she developed and implemented health education programs, emphasizing female empowerment and health education.

Whitney Mumford
Whitney was raised in a small town near Park City, Utah. While pursuing her bachelor's degree in psychology, she competed in track at Utah Valley University (UVU). Whitney began her career in the field of gastroenterology in 2014, while supporting her husband through his education. Although she initially moved away, she returned because of her appreciation for the community and positive environment that the Division of Gastroenterology fosters. During her time here, she recognized a need for improved organization and education around Microsoft Office tools. This led her to develop and implement her own content, as well as start a Microsoft document organization series, all while taking on a leadership role in faculty recruitment. In her personal time, Whitney enjoys playing and competing in pickleball tournaments, watching various sports, and spending quality time with her husband and two sons.
