Melissa Cortez was awarded an NIH/Clinical Research Loan Repayment Program (LRP) for 10/1/15-10/1/17 for her project: Multimodal autonomic assessment in chronic migraine and post-traumatic headache.
Kathleen Digre (PI) received renewal of her grant from DHHS OPHS/OWH on “Coalition for a Healthier Community Program for Utah Women and Girls - Phase II.”
Lauren Schrock and Kevin Duff (Co-Is) were awarded a 1-year University of Utah Funding Incentive Seed Grant on “Exogenous Dopamine Effects on Motor Learning in Parkinson Disease.” Lee Dibble of Physical Therapy is the PI on the project.
Gordon Chelune was recently named by the National Academy of Neuropsychology as the 2015 recipient of the Distinguished Lifetime Contribution to Neuropsychology Award. The award will be presented at the annual conference of the National Academy of Neuropsychology later this year in Austin, TX.
Chris Jones was an investigator on one of the inaugural 2015 Neuroscience Initiative Collaborative Pilot Project Grants entitled “Examination of Neurobehavioral and Neurophysiological Mechanisms Underlying Habitual Short Sleep Duration.” His co-investigators include Dr. Paula Williams of Psychology and Dr. Jeff Anderson of Radiology.
John Hoffman was awarded a 5-year R01 from NIH (R01 NS092458) for the project “Causes, consequences, imaging and mitigation of sepsis-induced encephalopathy” Kathryn Morton and Jeff Yap in Radiology are his co-PIs. The project will use microPET and MRI to shed light on the molecular basis, neurocognitive features, and long-term outcome of sepsis-induced brain dysfunction.
Nick Johnson received the notice of award for his NINDS K23 award, starting in April, for the grant titled “Health Endpoints and Longitudinal Progression in Congenital Myotonic Dystrophy.” Congratulations Nick!
Dustin Hammers received pilot funding for a project evaluating ‘Acute Air Pollution, Biomarkers, and Cognition in the Elderly’ from a joint collaboration between the University of Utah Center on Aging and the University of Utah Program for Air Quality, Health and Society. Kathryn Morton and Kevin Duff were listed as collaborators.

Susan Baggaley is the PI on a 20-month grant from Pfizer ($350K) “Connected Care for Improving Treatment of Chronic Headache: Using the Project ECHO model (Tele-health) weekly sessions of case based learning to University of Utah Community Clinic providers on headache diagnosis and management.” Co-I’s include K Digre, KC Brennan, K Pippitt, L. Gren, & S Junkins. This project seeks to use diagnostic tools in EPIC, decrease opioid prescriptions, and improve disease specific medication management in these patients. Congrats Susan et al.!
