Congratulations to Dr. Corrine Welt, MD, Professor and Chief, Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes, for her appointment as the George E. Cartwright Endowed Chair in Internal Medicine.
Dr. George Cartwright was a pioneer in the field of Hematology, and set the standard of what it means to be considered a clinician scientist. Throughout Dr. Welt's career, she has exemplified the characteristics of Dr. Cartwright, making her an ideal candidate for this prestigious recognition.
Dr. Welt joined the University of Utah in September 2014, and has recently accepted the position of Chief of the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes. Her research focuses on female reproduction with a focus on the etiology of ovulatory disruption in women. She studies the complex genetics of polysystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and has recently secured R01 funding to examine the genetic causes of early menopause. The genetic underpinnings of both disorders increase metabolic risk, cancer risk, and mortality.
Dr. Welt takes an active role in the education of fellows, residents, and medical students. She teaches in the 2nd year Endocrinology course, trains residents and fellows in clinic and in the resesearch laboratory and gives lectures as part of the Endocrinology Fellowship Didactic Conference series.
Congratulations, Dr. Welt, on this incredible achievement.
