Jake Magel

The efforts of GIN Affiliate Dr. Jake Magel are noteworthy, especially his recent NCCIH Administrative Supplement KL2 award via the NCATS Utah Center for Clinical & Translational Science (CCTS) KL2 Mentored Career Development Scholar Program (KL2TR002539).

This 2-year, federal institutional K will afford Dr. Magel necessary training, practical experience, and knowledge to become a leading independent investigator focused on rehabilitation to improve outcomes and mitigate problematic prescription opioid use in patients with chronic musculoskeletal conditions.

His mentors for this award are Dr. Adam J Gordon, MD from the Department of Internal Medicine/Greater Intermountain Node and Dr. Julie M Fritz, PT PhD from the Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training.

With this award, he is better positioned to launch R01 comparing nonpharmacologic pain management approaches to mitigate problematic prescription opioid use and reduce pain outcomes for patients who undergo spine surgery. Congratulations Dr. Magel!
