First DOIM Consult Awards

First DOIM Consult Awards

Issues that arise in an inpatient consult setting typically don’t get a lot of attention, but they are vital for patients and providers alike. In an effort to recognize and improve consultations within the Department of Internal Medicine, the department launched a new initiative called the Consultation Recognition Program in June. The program aims to recognize excellence across inpatient consult services.

Once a month, the department will recognize an outstanding individual consultant and an outstanding consulting service. Awards will be based on monthly nominations from residents and APCs who rotate through inpatient services in general medicine, cardiology, pulmonary, hematology, and oncology with the final decision made by an impartial judging panel composed of leaders within the institution.

The committee presented the first round of awards for July's Consultant of the Month and Consult Service of the Month.

  • Consultant of the Month Award recognized Sheeva Parbhu, MD, a fellow from the Division of Gastroenterology. A comment in the nomination noted that “Sheeva is always respectful and informative with residents.” Congratulations Sheeva!
  • Consult Service of the Month goes to the Division of Infectious Diseases. A comment in the nomination noted that "The service provided by the Antibiotic Stewardship team of Emily Spivak is excellent, and ID consistently goes out of their way to communicate well with primary teams." Congratulations to the Division of Infectious Diseases!

If you are a resident, intern, or APC on an inpatient service, we encourage you to nominate individuals or services. If you utilize a consult, you will receive an email at the end of each month with a link to submit your nomination. If you have questions about this initiative, please reach out to Nate Wanner or Stephen Jenkins
