Hypertension Symposium Recap

Hypertension Symposium Recap

The 2nd Annual Utah Translational Hypertension Symposium convened this September and was sponsored in part by the Division of General Internal Medicine. Faculty from the division helped to ensure the symposium was a great success.

The symposium highlighted cutting-edge hypertension treatment and research from experts and early stage investigators from across the country.

With the new 2017 American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association blood pressure guidelines reclassifying millions of Americans with hypertension, clinicians and health care systems are determining how to best implement the new recommendations.

Paul Whelton, MD, MSC, was the keynote speaker for the symposium. As Chair of the 2017 ACC/AHA Blood Pressure Guideline Writing Committee, he will oversee and map the future of hypertension research.
