We are pleased to welcome Dr. Nicola Camp to the faculty in the Division of Hematology and Hematologic Malignancies.
Dr. Camp, Ph.D. joined the University of Utah in 1998 in the Department of Biomedical Informatics and was promoted to Professor in 2009. She earned her PhD in statistical genetics from the University of Sheffield, UK, where she subsequently received post-doctoral training in molecular and genetic medicine. During her tenure at our institution Dr. Camp has served as an Adjunct Professor of Human Genetics and Family and Preventative Medicine. She is a Huntsman Cancer Institute investigator, and a member of the Cancer Control and Population Sciences program. As a genetic epidemiologist/statistical geneticist, her research interests include the identification of heritable genetic risk variants and the development of novel methods.
Dr. Camp’s current research focuses on the identification of germ-line genetic variants that increase susceptibility to hematologic malignancies including chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and multiple myeloma (MM) in addition to breast cancer. Her projects include: whole exome and whole genome massively parallel sequencing in a high-risk CLL pedigree and high-density genome wide SNP genotyping in CLL, MM and controls. She has received the Reed Gardner Award for Faculty Excellence, has been honored by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for her research and is a recipient of a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers. She currently serves on the editorial board of two genetics journals and is a member of the American Society of Human Genetics, the American Association for Cancer Research and the International Genetic Epidemiology Society. She coordinates the Utah contribution to the International Multiple Myeloma Consortium (IMMC) and serves on the NCI Board of Scientific Counselors For Clinical Sciences and Epidemiology. She is principal investigator on multiple grants from the National Institutes of Health and co-investigator on a series of other NIH grants.
