Congratulations to Dr. Betty Leibold and her group for their publication in Nature Communication entitled “Irp2 regulates insulin production through iron-mediated Cdkal1-catalyzed tRNA modification”. They demonstrated that mice lacking the Irp2 iron-regulatory protein exhibit an iron deficiency in b cells leading to an insulin secretion defect. The diabetic condition is mitigated by the addition of iron showing a novel link between insulin processing and cellular iron.
