Dr. Brian McClune Appointed as the Associate Chief of Clinical Affairs

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Brian McClune has been appointed to serve as the Associate Chief of Clinical Affairs for the Division of Hematology and Hematologic Malignancies.

Dr. McClune joined our faculty in December 2019 from the University of Kansas. Prior to assuming this new role as Associate Chief of Clinical Affairs, Dr. McClune served as the Outpatient Medical Director for the Division of Hematology and Hematologic Malignancies, and in that role, has generated a number of meaningful gains for our Division, the clinic, and most importantly, our patients.

The Associate Chief of Clinical Affairs is a new role for the Division and will wrap many of the components previously divided between the Inpatient and Outpatient Medical Directors under one comprehensive umbrella. In addition to overseeing the inpatient and outpatient enterprises across all of our sites for the Division of Hematology and Hematologic Malignancies, the Associate Chief of Clinical Affairs will focus on associated strategic clinical initiatives that will ensure we are optimally using our many resources to service our local, regional, and supra-regional community in the best ways possible.

I want to thank Dr. Tibor Kovacsovics who has served as the Inpatient Medical Director for the Division of Hematology and Hematologic Malignancies since the role’s inception. Dr. Kovacsovics has been instrumental in several key initiatives including improving discharge times, reducing mortality rates, increasing the staffing and overall well-being of our inpatient APCs, and successfully designing and implementing a third inpatient service. While the role of Inpatient Medical Director will be dissolved under this new organizational structure, Dr. Kovacsovics and his deep knowledge of the inpatient enterprise, will undoubtedly serve as a valuable resource for the Associate Chief of Clinical Affairs.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. McClune on his new leadership role. We look forward to the great things to come!

Sincerely,

Michael W.N. Deininger, M.D., Ph.D.
