Dr. Beddhu Appointed to Dialysis Research Foundation Presidential Endowed Chair

Congratulations to Srinivasan (Srini) Beddhu, MD who has been appointed to the Dialysis Research Foundation Endowed Chair in the Division of Nephrology on November 6, 2018. This endowed chair became vacant when Alfred Cheung, MD was recently nominated to the newly created Dialysis Research Foundation Presidential Endowed Chair in Nephrology.  

Dr. Beddhu joined the faculty of the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at the University of Utah as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in 1999. When he was promoted to Associate Professor in 2006, he received tenure. In 2012, Dr. Beddhu was promoted to Professor of Medicine. Dr. Beddhu has been a leader at the Salt Lake VAMC as the Director of the End Stage Renal Disease Program from 1999 – 2007. 

Dr. Beddhu has had a remarkable track record in procuring research funding from the NIH and private industry. As a Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator for more than 30 research grants, he has published quality research articles with 93 peer-reviewed journal articles. Dr. Beddhu has presented his research in more than 30 international and national settings. His research interests include obesity, malnutrition and cardiovascular disease in chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease.

Beyond Dr. Beddhu’s admirable research career, his role as a research mentor is extraordinary. He has helped to recruit and support the career development success of two junior faculty members within the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension. These mentees have progressed from career development awards to independent research funding either from NIH or the VA.
