Timothy Farrell, MD

Dr. Timothy Farrell, Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Geriatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine, Physician Investigator at the VA Salt Lake City Geriatric Research, Education, and Clinical Center and Director of University of Utah Health Sciences Interprofessional Education, has been selected as a Scholar for the second cohort of the Tideswell at UCSF, American Geriatrics Society (AGS), and the Association of Directors of Geriatric Academic Programs (ADGAP) Emerging Leaders in Aging Program for 2016-2017. The Emerging Leaders in Aging Program—supported with funding from the S.D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation—recognizes that, to meet the current and future healthcare needs of our society, we require skilled, dedicated, and passionate leaders in the health professions who are prepared to “Lead Tidal Change in Aging” and are ready to “Scale Up for Our Future”. This is a time that demands leaders to provide organizations with vision, meaning, direction and focus as they make the innovative and transformative changes needed to improve care for older adults. The program emphasizes augmenting and leveraging existing leadership skills relevant to clinical, research, policy and educational initiatives.

Dr. Farrell is among 16 select scholars participating in this year-long leadership development program. Through a series of in-person meetings, mentoring opportunities, and workshops, Dr. Farrell will join colleagues from across the country to build skills related to personal authenticity, effectively leading others, and promoting creativity and flexibility in the face of change, particularly in environments where resources may be scarce.
