paloma-cariello.jpgPaloma F. Cariello, MD, MPH (Infectious Diseases) was selected as one of three University of Utah faculty to represent U of U Health at the 2017 AAMC Early Career Women Faculty Development Seminar.

This seminar aims to help women physicians and scientists gain knowledge and skills to obtain tenure, leadership positions, and advance in academic medicine. The AAMC website outlines the important value of this conference:

"According to the 2013 - 2014 State of Women in Academic Medicine Report, women continue to be less likely to receive tenure than men and continue to be underrepresented in higher faculty ranks and leadership positions. In light of this and its commitment to increasing the number of women faculty in academic medicine and in leadership positions, the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) offers the Early Career Women Faculty Leadership Development Seminar."

We are proud to have Dr. Cariello represent the U and our department at this training. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Cariello is the program director for the Infectious Diseases Fellowship as well as the Infectious Diseases Clerkship for the School of Medicine. In this role, she mentors and supervises trainees during their clinical rotations, as well as manages recruitment of new fellows.
