Institutional Undergraduate Student Research Fellowship Program

4/01/2018 – 4/1/2021

American Heart Association

There is an ongoing unmet need to provide multidisciplinary training and research experiences to undergraduate students in order to encourage and attract qualified college students to help us understand better the pathophysiology and treatment of cardiovascular disease. This program will leverage on our unique strengths in cardiovascular research at the University (U) of Utah, spanning basic and mechanistic investigation across a range of model systems and translational and clinical studies in humans. The PI and sponsors identified in this training program lead exciting and productive cardiovascular research programs that represent interdisciplinary collaborative cardiovascular research. They are well-funded faculty mentors who demonstrate and possess a track record of supporting undergraduate trainees and provide meaningful experience in research that supports the mission of the American Heart Association and the U of Utah. Each trainee will participate in a training program that includes a research project along with a multidisciplinary mentoring and didactic education through the U of Utah Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR). They will also have opportunities to present their work in a scholarly setting at national and international conferences.

This grant is similar to a T32 research training grant, geared towards undergraduate students to perform CV research (five spots per year for 3 years).
