Lynd Bacon, PhD, MBA

Epidemiology

Lynd is an experimental psychologist with neuroscience training who has held academic appointments and private sector positions throughout his career.  He has a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago and an M.B.A. from the Booth School of Business at The University of Chicago. He has been teaching graduate level predictive analytics and applied data science at Northwestern for the last six years and marketing analytics for Notre Dame's Mendoza College of Business for the last three years. He has an adjunct associate professor appointment in the David Eccles School of Business, where he will be teaching business, marketing, and healthcare analytics. Lynd has held senior level management and science positions in business intelligence companies, and was the chief research officer for Knowledge Networks, Inc., which has been acquired by GfK of Germany.

Lynd has moved to Utah with his wife Sara Knight, who has accepted a faculty position at the University of Utah's School of Medicine. Lynd and Sara have lived in Birmingham, AL, Northern Califoria, and Chicago, IL. They have a cat named Turtle. Lynd was also a Motorcycle Safety Foundation instructor for 10 years.

He completed medical school at the University of Colorado in 2005, followed by residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of Utah and ultimately joined the faculty here in 2008 as a full time Hospitalist. His clinical focus includes caring for patients who require hospitalization on the general medical wards with a wide variety of medical conditions. He has developed an interest in the optimal treatment of patients with healthcare associated pneumonia that may be due to resistant organisms. His additional clinical interests including assisting patients and families with difficult symptom management and complex medical decision making as a consulting physician on the University Hospital Palliative Care Service. Dr. Freeman also assists with research and consultative support for patients with blood clotting disorders as part of the University of Utah Thrombosis Service.

Carlos Gomez, MD

Dr. Gomez received his MD degree from the University Nacional de Colombia, in Bogota, Colombia. He then completed Internal Medicine residency at the University of Pittsburgh, followed by fellowship training in general Infectious Diseases, Medical Microbiology, and Immunocompromised Host ID at Stanford University. Carlos A Gomez, MD, is board-certified in Adult Infectious Diseases (ABIM) and board eligible for Medical Microbiology (ABP). His primary focus of interest is infections in patients with weakened immune systems relating to solid-organ transplantation, Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation, cancer, and drugs that suppress or modulate immune responses. He speaks Spanish.

Mark Ibrahim, MD

Dr. Ibrahim earned his medical degree from Tishreen University School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine and a Chief Medicine Resident year at the University of Illinois-Chicago. He went on to complete a Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at UIC. Most recently, Dr. Ibrahim completed an Advanced Cardiac Imaging Fellowship here at the University of Utah. He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular medicine, echocardiography, and cardiac nuclear imaging. 

Dr. Ibrahim specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of patients with Cardiovascular Disease including coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, hyperlipidemia, and hypertension. He has special interest and expertise in Cardiovascular Imaging, including Cardiac CT, Cardiac MRI, Echocardiography, and Nuclear Cardiology.

Conan Kinsey, MD, PhD

Dr. Kinsey is from Lancaster, Pennsylvania and completed his undergraduate education at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. He then went on to train in the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in Rochester, New York completing his Ph.D. in Genetics in Hartmut Land’s Laboratory and his M.D. He completed a Research Track Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Utah and a Medical Oncology Fellowship at the Huntsman Cancer Institute with a post-doctoral fellowship in Martin McMahon’s Laboratory. Dr. Kinsey specializes in Gastrointestinal Oncology with a translational research focus on pancreatic cancer.

Rachel Kroencke received her MD from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 2015. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency here at the University of Utah.

Ami Patel, MD

Dr. Patel is originally from Stoughton, Massachusetts and completed her undergraduate and medical school studies at Northwestern University in Chicago. She went on to finish an Internal Medicine residency at Northwestern University's McGaw Medical Center in Chicago before coming to Salt Lake City with her husband for Hematology/Oncology fellowship training at the University of Utah. She is delighted to be joining the Hematology Division and will be specializing in the treatment of myeloid leukemias. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her husband, Andy, and her dachshund mix, Molly.

Divya Raghavan, MBBS

Divya specializes in treating patients with kidney disease, with a particular interest in kidney transplant patients. She completed her medical school training at Kilpauk Medical College in India. She went on to complete a residency in internal medicine at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; a two-year Nephrology fellowship at the University of Utah, with an additional year of specialization in Translplantation Nephrology.

Ben completed his PhD in statistics at Oregon State University and did research on models for disease surveillance. While living in Corvallis, Ben completed two half marathons: one on the road and one on a trail. He is originally from Boston. I am originally from the Boston area but have now lived in all 4 time zones of the contiguous U.S. I completed my Ph.D. in statistics at Oregon State University in Corvallis and did research on models for disease surveillance. While living in Corvallis I completed two half marathons: one road, one trail.

in Nursing as an adult nurse practitioner from The University of Tampa in Tampa, FL, and her Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Science from St. Cloud State University in Minnesota.

She is orginally from Moorhead, MN, but moved to Utah two years ago after 13 years in Tampa, FL.

Brett is originally from Salt Lake City, however he recently returned from living out of the state and country for the past eight years. He first left Salt Lake to join Peace Corps, where he served as an urban youth development volunteer in Fernando de la Mora Paraguay. After his experience in South America, he returned to the U.S. in order to complete a master’s degree in social work at UC Berkeley. After graduating, he lived and worked in Oakland, California for several years as a clinical case manager for youth with severe and persistent mental illness, and later as an integrated behavioral health clinician in a school based health center. He recently returned to Salt Lake City this year to raise his family and be close to family.

Jennifer has a BS in Nursing from the University of Colorado-Pueblo and a BA in Zoology from the University of Hawaii. She recently recieved her Master of Science in Nursing from Simmons College, and is also certified as an FNP through AANP. Before recieiving her masters she worked as a certified oncology nurse for the last three years. She knew she wanted to stay in Oncology when she transitioned to Advanced Practice. She is now working as an NP in the BMI Clinic at Hunstman Cancer Hospital.

I am the mother of three girls, ages 11, 7, and 6. She looks forward to taking them camping and hiking in the Utah landscape.

Hailey received her Bachelor's degree in Health Promotion and Education with an emphasis in Community Health and minor in Nutrition in addition to a master's degree in Health Promotion and Education with an emphasis in weight management, body image and eating disorders and a graduate certificate in global health from the University of Utah. She has conducted public health research related to nutrition globally, worked with refugees to improve their nutrition status and has provided nutrition consultations to cardiac rehab patients, in addition to teaching undergraduate classes at the University of Utah in Health Promotion and Education. She has also been invited to write chapters in an encyclopedia about eating disorders and published her research in a health education journal after presenting at national conferences.

Brooke lives in North Ogden where she was born and raised. She has 13 years of clerical experience and applied for a job with University of Utah Health because she felt she would be a good fit for the job and could make a career out of it. She has two kids that were born premature who are now in highschool: one a freshman and the other a sophmore. They remind her that everyone is capable of doing hard things.
