Match Day 2019 - Incredible Matches for Students
Match Day is an exciting time for students across the country, and especially at the Univeristy of Utah. This year's Match Day results leave the Department of Internal Medicine with many reasons to celebrate: our own Utah student matches and our incoming 2019 student matches.
"This is the best match our Utah students have had in Internal Medicine in my entire career," says Caroline Milne, MD, Director of the Internal Medicine Training Program. "On this day, we are sending 17 Internal Medicine, 1 medicine/psych, and 3 medicine-pediatrics (M/P) students out into the world. I want to thank our faculty for working with, mentoring, and rooting for this talented group along the way. I especially want to thank Drs. Katie Lappe and Sonja Raaum (Assistant Professors, General Internal Medicine) for their hand in mentoring and advocating."

In regards to the Department of Internal Medicine's own matches, Milne only has only one word: Incredible. "This is the best match on paper I have had the pleasure to be a part of," she says. "However, it places a large responsibility on the department to deliver to these accomplished matches what I told them we can deliver - the best medical education we possibly can."
Our matched applicants can be found by clicking here. This is an impressive group; nearly one-third have Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) status, USMLE Step 1 scores are 243 (national average: 229), USMLE Step 2 scores are 257 (national average: 243), and 12 matches are women.
Dr. Milne also thanks the Education Office staff, who worked tirelessly the past few months to arrange interviews with 460 applicants: Amy Kern, Amy Kearns, Emilee Cluff, Karen James, and Carol Stevens.
