dani babble

Dani Babbel, MD

Dr. Babbel grew up in Corvallis, Oregon. She studied Anthropology and Geography in her undergraduate years, which led to international travels with various research endeavors. She decided that she missed the hard sciences and that she wanted to work with patients, so she decided to pursue medicine. She loves living in Salt Lake because of her love for the four seasons, and because there are many opportunities to rock climb.

Nicholas Brening, MD

Dr. Brening isoriginally from Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He completed his undergraduate at Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska and medical school at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. He moved to Salt Lake City in 2015 for Internal Medicine residency and fell in love with the area and people. He was happy to complete a Geriatrics fellowship at the U of U last year. Dr. Brening is excited to be a part of the Division of Geriatrics and has a particular interest in the care of LGBT older adults.

Since moving to Utah, he has enjoyed the outdoors including mountain biking and hiking. He also spend time playing the piano and spending time with his partner, Tony.

Natalie Como, MD

Dr. Como grew up in Kansas, then attended Duke University for her undergraduate education and Creighton University for medical school. She completed a combined residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at the University of Utah in June 2019 and started working as a hospitalist this summer.

She considers herself lucky to have her dream job, which is working half of her time in a large acadamic medical center and half of her time at a 20-bed rural, community hospital in Montant. Outside of work, she enjoys distance running, hiking, cooking, gardening, and camping in her mini-Airstream trailer with her dog, Cody, and boyfriend, Sam. She loves the mountain west and doesn't ever plan on leaving!

richmond doxey

Richmond Doxey, MD, CCMS

Dr. Doxey is an internist and culinary medicine specialist. His professional interests include the influence of food patterns and other lifestyle factors on chronic illness, and how to harness the power of lifestyle changes to prevent and treat chronic illness. Dr. Doxey has given several presentations and workshops at local, regional and national meetings on the Mediterranean Diet and its impact on chronic illness.

Dr. Doxey was born in Logan, UT and grew up in Salt Lake City. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Young University, majoring in Molecular Biology. He attended medical school and completed his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin, followed by Internal Medicine residency at the University of Washington – Boise program in Boise, Idaho. He stayed on as a Chief Medical Resident for an additional year. After finishing his board certification in Internal Medicine, inspired by a long-standing interest in nutrition its impact on health, he completed a Culinary Medicine Specialist certification.

A. Taylor Kelley, MD, MPH, MSc

Taylor Kelley is an assistant professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Utah School of Medicine and primary care physician and research scientist in the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System. He is interested in evaluating and improving access to care for vulnerable populations. In his clinical capacity, he works in the Vulnerable Veteran Innovative Patient Aligned Care Team (VIP), a progressive interdisciplinary model of primary care delivery within the VA designed to better integrate the treatment of patients’ medical and psychosocial needs. As a physician investigator, his work currently focuses on how policies affect veteran access to care and how that access is defined and measured. He also studies the effects of local, state, and national policies on healthcare quality and access for immigrants in the United States.

Dr. Kelley grew up in Morgantown, West Virginia. Significant life experiences include serving a two-year Spanish-speaking mission in Portland, Oregon, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; spending summers abroad promoting health education and advocating public health policy in rural Ecuador and Amman, Jordan; and working regularly within immigrant and refugee communities in the United States. He is one of eight children and father of four.

Dr. Eduardo Rodriguez-Zarate joins the University of Utah from The Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona. He is from Peru, so he cannot resist Peruvian cuisine, especially Peruvian ceviche. He would like to learn to play the guitar someday. He enjoys playing soccer, table tennis, swimming, going to the gym and watching movies.

Benjamin Solomon, MD

Dr. Solomon is originally from Atlanta, where he went to college at Emory University. For medical school, he attended Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA. Prior to Utah, he lived in Burlington, VT for three years where he completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Vermont. He has moved to Utah for his fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of Utah and has been here since.

He originally became interested in oncology in college where he researched novel drug delivery systems and volunteered at the Winship Cancer Institute in Atlanta. During his fellowship, Dr. Solomon worked on QI projects looking to improve inpatient mortality and ways to improve clinical trial accrual. He also worked on development of a phase I clinical trial and attended the Vail AACR/ASCO Methods in Clinical Cancer Research Workshop to further his education in clinical trial development and execution. One personal fact is that he loves winter sports despite growing up in the South!

Mei Wei, MD

Dr. Wei was born and raised in China. She came to Utah when she decided to move to the United State. She completed her residency and fellowship training at the University of Utah.

Her mother always wanted her to be a doctor, but Dr. Wei never found herself very enthusiastic about the field of medicine until she stepped into the Oncology field by accident. She is grateful for that accident now, and loves her current career very much. When not at work, Dr. Wei enjoys all the outdoor activities that Utah has to offer.

Sara Wikstrom, MD, FACP

Dr. Wikstrom is originally from Salt Lake City, Utah. She received her BA in History from Yale College in 2002 and her MD from the University of Utah in 2008. She has spent the last 11 years in Washington, DC, where she completed her training in internal medicine at The George Washington University Hospital in 2011 and then served as a Chief Medical Resident and Clerkship Director. While at GW, Dr. Wikstrom completed a Masters Degree in Education and Human Development. As a hospitalist at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital, her clinical interests include caring for acutely ill hospitalized patients and the education of medical students and residents.

When not at the hospital, Dr. Wikstrom enjoy spending time with my husband, two children (5 and 3) and her golden retriever. Sara's favorite activities include skiing, running, coaching soccer and attending exercise classes at The Bar Method.

Anna is originally from Los Angeles California, but has called Utah home for the past 9 years. She received her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree and gerontology certificate from the University of Utah in 2019 with honors, and her Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree in 2010. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, Anna was a registered nurse specializing in critical care for eight years, in addition to her professional experience in oncology, hospice nursing, and ski clinics. She is humbled and grateful for her nursing experience at the University of Utah Surgical ICU from 2011-2018. Anna's critical care experience has led her to appreciate the science and art of modern medicine, and to pursue her interests in symptom management and palliative care in the inpatient setting.

Outside of work, she loves to trail run (the longer the distance the better!), rock climb, and backcountry ski with her very wonderful husband.

Gavin is originally from Provo, Utah and excited to now be living in beautiful Salt Lake City. He enjoys learning new things and utilizing his skill set to take ideas further and bring them to life. Gavin has a vast range of hobbies, a few of which include: golfing, racquetball, volleyball, reading, listening to music, and studying foreign language. He currently can speak Portuguese fluently and is currently working his German.

Aleah is from Millcreek, Utah, and is a sophomore pursuing Biomedical Engineering. She's on the club swim team at the U. After deciding her major partway through my freshman year, Aleah started looking for labs related to her interests, and found a lab researching asthma that sounded fascinating! She is thankful that it all worked out, and she is now working as an undergraduate research assistant.

Rebeka is joining Dr. Rashmee Shah's research team in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine as a data sciennce programmer/analyst. Born and raised in India, Rebeka came to Salt Lake City to pursue her Masters in Computing from the University of Utah. She looks forward to using technology to answer research questions in healthcare. 

When not in front of a computer screen, Rebeka can be found hiking the beautiful canyons of Utah, attending a Utah Symphony concert, enjoying a lattee in a local coffee shop, or just doodling in her notebooks.

Caitlin was born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She just graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga this past May with a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science. She has previously worked as a Reintroduction Assistant for the Tennessee Aquarium Conservation Institute. As a lab assistant, she hopes to gain more experience in genetic analysis and scientific research. She plans to pursue a Master’s Degree in Ecology or Environmental Science with a focus on freshwater ecology.

Caitlin is very passionate about environmental conservation and is outside every chance she gets! She also loves wildlife, reading, true crime podcasts, and good food.
