Anna E. Beaudin, PhD
Associate Professor
Hematology & Molecular Medicine Program

Originally from Los Angeles, California, Dr. Beaudin completed a B.A. in Psychology and Ph.D. in Nutritional sciences at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She continued her postdoctoral work at UC Santa Cruz, where she used a fate-mapping approach to discover a novel, transient hematopoietic progenitor that serves as a cell of origin for fetal-restricted innate-like lymphocytes.

Since opening her lab in 2016, Dr. Beaudin's work has been funded by several NIH-funded awards, the Hellman Foundation, and she is a recipient of the Pew Biomedical Scholars Award. Dr. Beaudin is an active member of the International Society of Experimental Hematology, where she serves on the Publications Committee, as well as American Society of Hematology, and the American Association of Immunologists. She was also elected as a council member for the Midwinter Conference of Immunologists. Dr. Beaudin's is an active reviewer for journals including Cell Stem Cell, Stem Cell Reports, Blood, and Nature Communications, and her work has been published in high profile journals such as Cell Stem Cell, Stem Cell Reports, and Development.

The overarching goal of Dr. Beaudin's research is to define the contribution of fetal hematopoiesis, or blood production, to immune development, immune function, and disease susceptibility across the lifespan. The Beaudin lab utilizes single-cell analysis, fate-mapping, and in vivo analysis in mouse models to investigate how these specialized cells are made during fetal hematopoiesis, in order to gain insight into the role of these cells in tissue development, regeneration, and disease pathogenesis across the lifespan.

Melanie Browner
Renal Dietitian
Dialysis - Gem State Dialysis Center & Yellowstone Dialysis Center

Melanie lived in a few different places growing up but always tells people she is from Kanab, Utah. That is where she went to high school and she and her family went there to visit Grandma and Grandpa often before moving there. She loves to hike most anywhere but the red rock of southern Utah is her favorite! She especially likes Zion National Park and Bryce National Park. Even right outside the back door of the house she lived in at Kanab has lots of fun hiking!

Melanie graduated from Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho with an associates degree. After a few years of marriage she decided to return to school and finish what she had started. She had always been interested in nutrition and exercise. She graduated from Idaho State University with a bachelors in dietetics and also completed her internship through that university. She worked for 10 years at a long term care facility in Rexburg. Many dialysis patients came through during those years and so she kept in close contact with the Gem State and Yellowstone dietitian, Chris, to be sure their needs were met. Chris retired this year and Melanie was fortunate enough to obtain the open position. She enjoys the people and the work and looks forward to many years of working at both facilities.

Melanie loves to train for and compete in marathons and half marathons. She has done dozens of them over the years and has lost track of the number. She does them with her sisters and it is a fun way spend time with them. Most of them have been in Utah and Idaho with a few in Colorado. The hardest event she has ever done was the Bear Lake Back to Back, two full marathons in two days. One in Utah on Saturday and another in Idaho on Sunday. She would like to one day participate in a Ragnar Relay race.
