Utah Health Equity Leadership and Mentoring Program (U-HELM) Seeks Applicants for New Co-Director Position

For more information, please see position and program description, and other information below: U-HELM Co-Directors Molly Conroy and Kola Okuyemi are seeking an additional Co-Director to join them in the leadership of the U-HELM program. The new Co-Director will work closely with Drs. Conroy and Okuyemi to provide overall leadership for the program, including strategic guidance, design, implementation, and evaluation. Co-Directors are expected to participate in monthly seminarswith U-HELM fellows, starting in November on the third Friday of every month from 1 to 3 p.m.; attend quarterly Directors’ meetings; and connect with individual fellows to ensure a successful mentoring experience. The position compensates for 0.1 FTE for a 12 calendar-month appointment. Launched at the University of Utah School of Medicine in 2018, U-HELM provides mentoring and leadership development opportunities to junior faculty members and postdoctoral scholars from underrepresented populations in the health sciences or involved in health equity research and practice. A new cohort of approximately 12 U-HELM fellows is selected annually through an application process. U-HELM fellows move through a yearlong curriculum of monthly seminars and networking events that focus on traditional academic career development as well as topics related to cultural identity and challenges of systemic racism. In addition, fellows are matched with a senior-level faculty mentor to address issues of leadership and cultural identiy. U-HELM mentors are trained in cultural diversity with methods proven to enhance mentoring effectiveness. U-HELM is designed to supplement, not replace, research or academic discipline mentoring relationships. U-HELM is co-directed by Dr. Molly Conroy, Chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine, and Dr. Kola Okuyemi, Chair of the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine. Administrative support is provided by the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine. · Current faculty at the University of Utah Health Sciences with at least 0.75 FTE appointment (includes effort at the VA), either tenure or career lines;· Evidence of leadership (formal or informal) in health equity or related initiatives or programs;· Availability to provide 0.1 FTE for this position.
