Our Commitment to Fighting Racial Inequality

Dear Colleagues,

Our country, University of Utah Health and the Department of Internal Medicine are once again in mourning following what appears to be the racially motivated murders of eight people in Atlanta, six of whom were women of Asian descent. Department leadership stands in solidarity with Dr. Ruth Watkin's statement condemning anti-Asian hate, harassment, and violence. Our hearts go out to the victims of this horrifying and senseless crime, and to the Asian, Asian-American and Pacific Islanders in our U of U Health community who continue to endure instances of anti-Asian aggression and discrimination.

Back in the summer of 2020 during the height of the BLM movement following the murder of George Floyd, we declared our commitment to fighting racial inequity. We once again ask you to join us in renewing our commitment to being anti-racist and doing whatever you can to stop the hate.

We understand that the events in Georgia are likely to cause fear and anxiety, so we wish to share some resources available to members of our campus community. We encourage you to seek out help for yourselves, loved ones or colleagues:

Sincerely,
