"From the Desk Of" Staff Highlight - April 2021

From the Desk Of...

Each month, one staff member from the Department of Internal Medicine will be highlighted in a new staff recognition program called "From the Desk Of..." We are fortunate to have such talented staff members, and we want the rest of the department to get to know "the face behind the email."

April's featured staff member is Heidi Andrew, a Financial Management Analyst for the Division of Hematology.

  1. What is one fun fact about yourself? I just got married in March.
  2. What is your favorite motto/quote? Katherine Hepburn said, “Nevertheless,” and that covers it all for me.
  3. What is the best thing about working at the University of Utah? The people and the atmosphere at the U are fantastic. I can’t imagine a better group of people than the ones I work with directly, both staff and faculty, and the atmosphere is friendly, helpful, and progressive.
  4. What is your favorite book? Narrowing it down to one is not possible but I loved The Help in fiction, and in non-fiction, Reading Lolita in Tehran.
  5. Do you have any pets? I have a one-year-old labradoodle named Bridget. We got her when we started working from home so she has had lots of attention. Sadly, my eleven-year-old teacup poodle, Simon, just passed away.
  6. Where do you work? I work for SOM but my office is in HCI.
  7. What was your first job? I worked at my dad’s dental lab polishing the gold teeth.
  8. If you could have only three apps on your smartphone, what would they be? Kindle, Google Maps, and Pandora.
  9. What is your favorite way to decompress after work? After work three days a week I teach belly dancing lessons and on the weekends I dance with a troupe.
  10. Do you collect anything? I collect interesting things for the Christmas tree from wherever we travel – an alligator head from Louisiana, a puppet from Thailand, a tribal mask from Indonesia…
