Taylor Endowment Research Award

Taylor Endowment Research Award

Benjamin Maughan, MD, PhD (Division of Oncology) recently received the Taylor Endowment Research Award. The Taylor Award is intended to encourage and assist promising junior faculty in their research endeavors.

This award is made possible by the Ernest E.Taylor, Clarence A. Taylor, and Alvida N. Taylor Endowed Fund for Cancer Research.

Alvida N. Hooper wanted to support research into the causes and cures of cancer and cancer–related diseases. In 1988, she made a generous gift to the Division of Oncology at the University of Utah School of Medicine to establish this endowment which funds this award.

Dr. Maughan’s proposal focuses on patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma. Through clinical trials, he will test the safety and efficacy of PD-L1 therapy using avelumab and anti-VEGF therapy with cabozantinib. He suggests the combination will be effective in treating the disease and result in prolonged disease remissions.

With this award, Dr. Maughan can expand his knowledge and skills related to his interest in clinical trials research.

All faculty within the Division of Oncology are eligible to apply; preference is given to junior faculty who show capacity for distinction in research.
