"From the Desk Of" Staff Highlight - June 2020


From the Desk Of...

Each month, one staff member from the Department of Internal Medicine will be highlighted in a new staff recognition program called "From the Desk Of..." We are fortunate to have such talented staff members, and we want the rest of the department to get to know "the face behind the email."

June's featured staff member is Joseph Martinez, a project coordinator in the Division of Pulmonary Medicine. 

  1. What is one fun fact about yourself? In elementary school, I wrote letters to the San Diego Chargers asking them to draft me when I finished college.
  2. What is your favorite motto/quote? “Gentle is not a soft voice but a peaceful spirit” - Anonymous, (My current parenting quote)
  3. What is the best thing about working at the University of Utah? The team I work with.
  4. What is your favorite book? Wild at Heart – John Eldridge.
  5. Do you have any pets? We are in the process of finding some kind of “–oodle” for our girls.
  6. Where do you work? – Wintrobe and Research Park.
  7. How do you prefer to start your day? Big cup of coffee.
  8. What was your first job? Parking attendant at a AAA baseball stadium.
  9. What’s the best part of your job? Giving patients some hope when options are limited.
  10. What book are you reading right now? Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters.
  11. If you could snap your fingers and become an expert in something, what would it be? Life! Ha!
  12. What’s your superpower at work and at home? I wouldn’t say superpower, but I enjoy connecting with people.
  13. If you could have only three apps on your smartphone, what would they be? Pandora, KSL Classifieds, Audible.
  14. What is your favorite way to decompress after work? Sitting on the back porch with some music playing in the background.
  15. Do you collect anything? If so, describe. Woodworking tools, HS shop class got my interest started.
  16. If you could eat only one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Lunch, I could work without breakfast and dinner.
