NIH High-Risk, High-Reward Research Program Funding Opportunities; Applications due in September
The Director’s Pioneer Award supports individual scientists of exceptional creativity who propose pioneering and possibly transformative approaches to addressing major biomedical or behavioral challenges that have the potential to produce an unusually high impact on enhancing health, lengthening life, and reducing illness and disability. The proposed research must reflect substantially different scientific directions from those already being pursued in the investigator’s research program or elsewhere. The Early Independence Award supports exceptional investigators who wish to pursue independent research essentially directly after completion of their terminal doctoral/research degree or end of postgraduate clinical training, thereby forgoing the traditional postdoctoral training period and accelerating their entry into an independent research career.
