UU Research Instrumentation Fund Program Call for Proposals

Call for Faculty Proposals – UU Research Instrumentation Fund Program

IM Internal Review Deadline – Monday, July 30th

(Final applications due to the Office of the VP for Research September 17, 2018)

Program Purpose:

The Research Instrumentation Fund is a competitive program that provides support to faculty for new equipment purchases, or to replace or upgrade existing research instruments.  The grant period is for one year only and funds must be expended within that year.

Equipment sharing across laboratories is a key criterion for successful applications.  The Department will consider cost-sharing for the proposals, with review of equipment sharing across laboratories, and particularly sharing across laboratories within the department.

Evaluation Criteria:  Preference will be given to proposals that demonstrate:

  • sharing of equipment by more than one laboratory
  • the likely impact of funding on scholarship and productivity
  • the probability of increased extramural funding resulting from an award
  • benefit to the University

Similar Equipment Review: Applicants must verify that similar equipment is not currently available on campus through the Find Equipment link.  If similar equipment is available, a justification for additional equipment is required.

Department Internal Review:  In order to afford IM administration sufficient time to review applicant and proposal eligibility (http://research.utah.edu/grants/instrumentation.php) and to confirm the application will move forward, please provide Kris Larrabee (kris.larrabee@hsc.utah.edu) a brief description of the proposed equipment, a list of those who will provide letters of support, and a cost estimate by Monday, July 30th.  Approvals to proceed with a full application will be communicated no later than Monday, August 6th.

Department Chair Letter of Support:  For those proposals approved to move forward in the application process, the PI will be asked to provide a draft Chair letter of support by Friday, August 31st (send to christine.lasalle@hsc.utah.edu).

Dean’s Letter of Support:  For those proposals approved to move forward in the application process, the PI will be asked to provide a draft Dean’s letter of support by Friday, August 31st (send to christine.lasalle@hsc.utah.edu).

Final Application Submission:  Final applications are submitted online using U of U Competition Space (https://utah.infoready4.com/) and are due Monday, September 17th.
