NIH Announces NIH New Funding Opportunities for BASIC Experimental Studies Involving Humans (BESH)

In an effort to address the breadth of the NIH definition of a clinical trial, the agency has announced new funding opportunities for Basic Experimental Studies Involving Humans (BESH). The new funding opportunities announcements (FOAs) are for those studies that meet the definition of basic research, but that are also subject to clinical trials policies according to the NIH definition of a clinical trial. To determine if your research falls under this BESH FOAs, NIH has posted a table comparing clinical trial FOAS on their website. NIH Deputy Director for Extramural Research, explains the background and purpose of the BESH FOAs in an Open Mike blog post.
