General Internal Medicine Faculty Members Honored with Awards at Dean's Reception

On Wednesday, May 19, 2021, the School of Medicine's Class of 2021 Dean's Reception was held virtually for graduating students, faculty, staff and their guests to celebrate the graduation of the class of 2021 and honor faculty with various awards for teaching and mentorship. Three faculty members from the Division of General Internal Medicine were recognized with awards at this events, which are described below.

The Division of General Internal Medicine congratulates Dr. Katie Lappe on wining The RealMD Mentor of the Year Award. This award recognizes an outstanding faculty member who is an exemplary teacher, advisor, and mentor to medical students especially in regards to career planning and exploration. The recipient demonstrates exceptional skills and dedication to helping students succeed in their future career as physicians. She will receive an award plaque and a $500 prize.

Congratulations to Dr. Stacy Johnson for receiving the James L. Parkin, MD, Award for Outstanding Clinical Teaching! This award is given in honor of Dr. Parkin, a former Chair of the Department of Surgery who made significant contributions to medicine and Utah's higher education. Dr. Johnson will receive an award plaque and a $2000 prize. 

 

 

 

 

huberArnold P. Gold Humanism in Medicine Award - Dr. Jared Huber 

Dr. Jared Huber was recognized with the School of Medicine's annual Arnold P. Gold Humanism in Medicine Award, which honors medical school faculty physicians who practice patient-centered medicine, and exemplify qualities of a caring and compassionate mentor in the teaching and advising of medical students. 

In his first year as an attending physician on the Huntsman Cancer Institute hospitalist service, Dr. Huber has already made a tremendous impact on the lives of countless patients, students, and trainees. He was commended by his award nominators for his unwavering compassion and unparalleled dedication to mentorship. Dr. Huber creates a unique learning atmosphere in which team members grow professionally and personally - an atmosphere in which humanism is cultivated alongside clinical skills.

 

gretchen-case.jpgLeonard W. Jarcho, MD, Distinguished Teaching Award - Dr. Gretchen Case

Dr. Gretchen Case was recognized with the Leonard W. Jarcho, MD, Distinguished Teaching Award. This award was established in memory of one of the founding fathers of the four-year medical school. Dr. Jarcho joined the faculty in 1952 and established its first Neurology Program, serving as the original Chair of the department until he attained emeritus status in 1986. 

This award is presented to an outstanding medical educator who demonstrates exceptional skill and dedication in teaching and advising medical students, interns, residents or fellows. The 2021 Jarcho Award recipient receives a plaque and a gift of $3,000. Congratulations, Dr. Case!
