Internal Medicine Residency

Overview

Preliminary

As a preliminary intern in the University of Utah Internal Medicine Training Program, you will be integrated into the same high-quality education program as our categorical interns. The prelim schedule is also based on the 4+1 model, with 4 week rotations punctuated by one week of ambulatory care. This one-year program provides a strong foundation for advanced residency training from anesthesia to radiology. You will have four weeks of elective time to pursue other clinical interests outside of internal medicine.

  • Applicants that match with the University of Utah Neurology Residency Training Program are automatically accepted into our Medicine/Neurology Preliminary Program. Prelim-neuro interns have four weeks of NCCU in place of MICU, and also participate in neurology clinics during +1 weeks.
  • Applicants that match with the University of Utah Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Residency Training Program are automatically accepted into our Medicine/PM&R Preliminary Program.
  • Applicants that match with the University of Utah Ophthalmology Residency Training Program are automatically accepted into our Medicine/Ophthalmology Preliminary Program. This includes four and a half months of ophthalmology training during the PGY1 year.
